HYDERABAD: A high-level team of officials from German car maker Volkswagen will visit the state capital early next month to discuss details of the draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) sent by the state government to the company during the early stages of negotiations with it.Top government sources told the Sunday Times of India that a communication to this effect was received by the department concerned on Friday night.
This is in response to the message sent by the state government, seeking an appointment with top officials of the company in Germany.
In fact, the state delegation was planning to leave for Germany by month-end and was waiting for a mail from the Volkswagen. As per the MoU, the government had offered the company sales tax deferment for a period of 18 years and a 10-year central tax holiday. The power tariff was fixed at Rs 2 per unit and 350 acres of land was offered at a nominal price. Sources aver that the team wants to talk to the state government on the concessions offered and some clauses of the MoU before taking any decision. Major companies generally extract concessions from one government and bargain for more from other governments without firming up any decision on setting up the unit anywhere, senior officers conceded.
